Walking and culture in Montefeltro on the way to Urbino
Getting lost in an area of Italy that is often overlooked and remains unspoiled from mass tourism is one of the experiences you won't soon forget. Lovely Le Marche, the gorgeous region between the Adriatic coast and the Apennine Mountains, a perfect mix of nature, culture and typical product. This hiking trip is focusing on the Montefeltro area in the North of the region where you will find a diverse and wild terrain with an abundance of nature and small towns. The trip will be a food experience... every corner there has their own specialities. The final goal of this historic walk is the cultural capital of the region, Urbino: an extremely important stronghold during the renaissance, flourishing in the 15th century, mainly thanks to Federico da Montefeltro, the Duke, who is responsible for much of the iconic architecture which was built in the late 1400s.

Individual arrival in Rimini and private transfer to San Leo. Meeting with the guide and dinner in the hotel. Overnight stay in Hotel *** in San Leo. Meals (-/-/D).

Day 2 San Leo Montefeltro Le Marche ph Marta ZarelliDay 2: Pietracuta - San Leo (4. 30 hrs hiking, + 400m – 500m)
After a private transfer to Pietracuta the journey starts with some trekking among the famous "Crete" (Clays) typical formation of the Valmarecchia area. Along the rest of the route on small road and strade bianche you will reach the imposing stone whit the San Leo castle. Time to explore San Leo. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel*** in San Leo. Day 3 San Leo Montefeltro hiking in Italy le marche region ph Marta ZarelliDay 3: San Leo - Villagrande (5hrs hiking, + 750m – 300m).
Today we trek through the rolling hills, farmland and pine woods. Small hamlet on the way before reaching the hilltop village of Villagrande. In the area famous for the black truffle we spend the night beside a small lake. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel*** in Villagrande. Meals (B/L/D)

Day 4 Monte Carpegna hiking in Italy Montefeltro Le Marche ph Marta ZarelliDay 4: Villagrande - Frontino (6hrs hiking, +650m – 1100m)
Quiet tarmac lane and gravel roads lead through dramatic scenery to the fortified medieval village of Frontino. A gradually climb over the sloping north flank of the Monte Carpegna will lead you to the highest summit of Montefeltro (1413 m). Is the classic circuit of Monte Carpegna with the reward of spectacular views, followed by a wood descents to Carpegna town. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel*** in Frontino. Meals (B/L/D)

Day 5 Le Marche sant'Angelo in vado urbania Montefeltro ph Marta ZarelliDay 5: Walk to Sant'Angelo in Vado (4.30 hrs hiking, + 850m – 850m)
Today you will walk gradually uphill to come out from valley of Frontinio. Once up, follow the quiet country lane over the entire length of the ridge of Santa Maria with beautiful views. Then e descend to ruins of Castle Lunano. From Lunano a minibus will take you to Sant Angelo in Vado where we make a stop before continuing to the beautiful town Urbania. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel*** in Urbania. Meals (B/L/D)

Day 6 Le Marche Urbino duk palace ph Marta ZarelliDay 6: Walking to Urbino (6.30 hrs hiking, + 600m – 500m)
After visit Urbania whit its arcaded streets and the fine 15th century Ducal Palace the hiking day start with a climb out of the town on a country lane and along a winding strada bianca, past farms and isolated churches, before our final goal of this historic walk through the Montefeltro: the historic city of Urbino, which is built on two hills. The view on the town from the surrounding country is very worthwhile. Overnight in hotel*** in Urbino. Dinner is not included. Meals (B/L/-)

Grade:
moderate, 3 to 6 hours walking each day. The typology of the paths are: large dirt road, mule track and wooden path. A prior hiking experience is advisable. There is no technical difficulty but long walks.

Equipment: trekking shoes, trekking socks, trekking t-shirt, warm shell, wind and water proof jacket, hat and gloves, bathing suit, sun glasses and sun cream, daily backpack (min. 30 litres), trekking poles advised.

Getting there : The destination airport is Rome or Bologna. From either there are many rail access or bus to Rimini. Individual arrival at the Rimini train station.
